Start by measuring your stair's tread, its best to do this to every tread as you work on each step. This will ensure your durable LVT cladding fits great when fitting stairs
Trial fit the front nosing of the stair tread and riser kit that was cut to tread measurement. Then cut the rear section of tread to the same measurement. It's best to check your stairs are equal and parallel from front to rear of tread. Your LVT stair renovation is now taking shpe
Ensuring the front section of the cladding is firmly pressed into your stairs, take a measurement from the riser to back of the front cladding where the rear section will click into at both ends then cut to suit
Once the rear tread has been cut trial fit to ensure a nice fit prior to fixing. Now you will be getting closer to stylish LVT stairs.
Adhesive should be applied to the back of the front part of cladding with a large bead in a zig zag pattern. Then this part can be placed on to step leaving enough room to at the back to allow the rear part of cladding to click into the front part.
When applying adhesive to the front part of the cladding ensure a large bead is spread along the front edge to help stick the front edge. This is most important on the square front cladding when fitting stairs
Apply adhesive to the rear part of the tread cladding with a same size and pattern as the front part. Then click the 2 parts together on the step.
Once clicked together firmly press down and push back to spread adhesive and move cladding tightly to riser. Repeat the process to all other steps.
Measure the riser between the new cladding fitted to the steps, be as accurate as possible as not doing so will leave gaps. Once cut apply adhesive to the back and press firmly in place. Repeat to all steps
Decorators caulk can be applied to the outside edges to finish off the transformation.
Cutting the cladding can be done by miter saw or with a hand saw. If using a miter saw its best to cut with the finish wood effect facing up. A fine cut blade is recommended to avoid chipping surface finish.
Cutting with a hand saw is a easy process and will be great option for a DIY fitter. The cladding can be cut finish side up with most sharp hand saws. A piece scrap wood can aid the cutting process when using a hand saw.
Using the wood, place cladding over facing up and saw down the cut line. Take care to follow line as accurately as possible as these cuts will be visible on each step.
The same process is used to cut down rear treads and risers. After marking the cuts its advised to firmly hold planks on a flat surface and cut as close to line as possible.
